The San Diego Chargers have come into Philadelphia on a short week and have upset the Eagles 33-30.
The surprising tale of the game was the Chargers’ offense. The only way the Chargers were going to win this game was by stopping Chip Kelley’s fast-paced offense with their own offense and they were able to do exactly that. The Chargers possessed the ball for 40 minutes and were 10 of 15 on third downs. The offense did, however, turn the ball over twice in the red zone.
Quarterback Philip Rivers also played an efficient game completing 77 percent of his passes for 419 yards, 3 touchdowns and no interceptions. Two of those touchdowns were to receiver Eddie Royal who has 5 touchdowns through 2 games, equaling his career-high.
The Eagles’ offense didn’t look as efficient as last week but were able to capitalize on a few big plays to keep them in the game. The team failed to score of both of the Charger’s turnovers. The team also had a touchdown called back due to an illegal formation foul. Vick overthrew DeSean Jackson for an easy touchdown but he redeemed himself by throwing a perfect pass to Jackson a couple series later for a touchdown to tie the game.
Malcom Floyd was having a great game until he took a terrible, but legal, hit to the head. It came in the third quarter when Floyd was sandwiched between two defenders and took a hit straight down on his helmet. He was carted off the field on a stretcher and taken to a nearby hospital for evaluation. After the injury the Chargers’ offense suffered a noticeable drop in their flow and efficiency.
The Chargers will now get ready to face the Titans next week and the Eagles will try to bounce back against the Chiefs on a short week.
